The future looks grim...
It's the year 2183. Hundred years ago Earth has been hit by the Catastrophe. And if The Organization hadn't taken over - who knows whether humanity would still exist? But the safety brought upon us by The Organization came witha price: Our freedom. And not everyone is happy to pay. Dystopia is a dice free role playing game in a dystopian future for a game master and 3-5 players, inspired by books, movies and games like "The Hunger Games", "Interstellar", "1984", "The Last of Us" and "Resistance". |
The setting
The world of Dystopia is different for each gaming group: After a series of terrorist attacks a corrupt regime took over. Or a disease broke out, turning humans into zombies, and only on corporation produces the antidote. Or those surviving a nuclear war gather in an enclave lead by the Great Prophet. But there always is a Catastrophe, an Organization with absolute power and the players, trying to change this.
Dystopia does not limit the group on what their dystopia should be like. It offers the tools to tell a story full of tension, intrigue and dark secrets. |
The rules
The rules of Dystopia put focus on the freedom of both players and game master to tell the stories they want to tell. In addition they support the game master in constructing a world full of secrets and intrigue.
If a player for example wants to meet someone who can organize explosives, he will find one. The question whether this person is friendly, or might have their own agenda, is determined via a test. For tests characters have attributes and skills which determine the base value for this situation. Furthermore they have vigor points that can be used to boost the test result. The game master chooses an appropriate level of difficulty in secret. The higher the test value compared to the level of difficulty, the better the character mastered the test. |
